As the year moves forward, now is the right opportunity to check that your asbestos management responsibilities are fully up to date.

If you manage non-domestic buildings or multi-occupancy domestic premises, you have a legal duty to manage asbestos. This means you must:
- Identify if asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) are present, note their location, quantity and condition.
- Assume materials contain asbestos unless there’s firm evidence they don’t.
- Create and maintain an up-to-date asbestos register recording the location and condition of all known or presumed ACMs.
- Assess the risk of exposure to airborne asbestos fibres.
- Prepare an asbestos management plan detailing how those risks will be managed, implemented, monitored, and reviewed at least every 12 months—or sooner if needed.
- Regularly monitor the condition of any ACMs or suspected ACMs.
- Share information about the location and condition of ACMs with anyone who may work on or disturb them, including emergency services.
NOW is the perfect time to review your asbestos risk register and management plan. These documents are more than just compliance paperwork—they’re essential for protecting everyone who works in or visits your premises.
